Members of Congress Urge President to Reconsider Budget Proposal Affecting Highway Trust Fund; ATSSA Joins Call for Reevaluation
03/27/2009 -
On Friday, February 27, 2009, fifteen representatives and senators wrote to President Barack Obama, urging him to reconsider the Office of Management and Budget’s proposal to break down the walls surrounding the funding of the Highway Trust Fund. Currently, highway user fees fill the Trust Fund which is then used to rebuild and better our nation’s highway system. The OMB’s proposal would make the Trust Fund open to more flexible purposes; thus, potentially weakening the strength of the Fund or possibly leading to its elimination down the road. ATSSA took action immediately and sent a letters expressing our personal concern for this proposal to President Obama and key Budget Committee positions in both the House and the Senate.
